Audiobook - Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone

Ever since the first audiobook of the very famous Harry Potter series (narrated by Stephen Fry) has been made available for free, I've been trying to get my hands on the other books as well.  I came across one of the sites, and as on all these kinds of sites audio books are embedded to listen there, but not available for download, so I wrote a simple script to download the books (works well in Linux, not going to do anything for Windows users unless you're willing to install bash and tweak it on your own or just abandon all hope and install Linux for good). Cruel History

This post like most with similar topics, would seem like ranting about things in the past. I've been doing some research into world history and various major events that shaped the world we live in today. The past is filled with atrocities, which makes us humans seem like the lowest form of animal species to ever walk on this beautiful earth. So, let's start with dictatorship. I never realized this, but when it comes to the most cruel dictators of all time, Hitler isn't really on the top spot. The man who even dwarfs Hitler's crime against humanity is Joseph Stalin. The man was a nightmare to deal with, responsible for over about 49 million deaths. Then, there is Mao Zedong perhaps the most cruel dictator of all time, responsible for 45 million deaths in just 4 years. With respect to all of this, the Indian independence struggle and the great war of 1857 seem like just a bad day (perhaps an over exaggeration on my part). As, I was exploring this I came across Nanki

Poetry: "my heart's desire"

Well this is a piece written in sheer agony, so excuse the grammatical mistakes (if any). Here Goes... --------------------------------------------------------- my heart's desire You always looked so pretty, every guy's perfect dream. But, I had a feeling, you were narcissistic and mean. They all kept staring, at every step that you took. While I kept my distance not even caring if you looked. Then one day out of the blue, as I was taking a casual walk. I overheard a few ideas, and a few phrases while you talked. With brains added to beauty, you were now even my dream. But, then I revisited my memories, and at my actions I just screamed. Surprised at my ignorance, I felt stupid and I grieved. That day ended in penance, still on night I couldn’t sleep. As, the days went on, I tried to get a bit closer. And now in your eyes, I must seem like a poser. I'm utterly tired and broken, and it's your presence that i yearn. On my wick of h

Poetry: "memories..."

I think that went well, the poem was well received without any critiques (I would have welcomed them though). So, I thought why not give it another try. Here Goes... ------------------------------------- memories... I felt your warmth, without your touch. (the fire from hearth, couldn't compare as much) I heard you sing, without your voice. (no rhythm could bring, me more rejoice) I felt you near, while you were here. (and it brings me tears, 'cause I miss you dear) So, in the end, I'd say it again. I'd wish to live, those memories again... ------------------------------------- Though, both of them encompass a different genre, still they are deeply related. Peace out \./

Poetry: "a lif3 of pain"

I've been writing monostich for a while with some positive feedback. So, this is a try at a short poem that I wrote today while I was feeling a bit down. ----------------------------- A lif3 of pain: I was distressed, I was stirred. To make it worse, (I was) kicked to the curb. Perturbed, disturbed, my existence absurd. (I) was left alone, unknown and hurt. ----------------------------- The strangely spelled "lif3" in the title, symbolizes the topsy-turvy events unfolding in my life. Not sure how it made me feel, but I seemed to have vented out some of the frustration. Peace out \./

Life of enigma

Evolution of computers has been more interesting and mysterious than the computers themselves. It is mind-boggling to see, how one of the most complex machines designed by man started on a simple concept of  binary . It is the basis of all complex Crypts and machine language. And best of all, it is not only confined to the artificial machines, but also naturally occurring machine, i.e. 'humans'. Sounds baloney? Actually it isn't (read through) I did some research on how we came by the concept of binary. It is simple enough, on and off , as in the electric current. And, using that simple technique, we devised one of the most easily adaptable way to communicate, telegraph. It uses morse code to transmit messages, where we have dashes and dots, i.e. concept of binary. It used to take a rather long time, to transmit even the simplest of messages. The problem here was, that we were supposed to translate, what machine could understand, i.e. we were communicating with the mach

Dawn of the light

Hmm, third time is the charm (let's hope so). After two horrible failures, this is the third time I'm going to try and write a thrilling fantasy novel. The concept is a bit derivative, but I think it has the potential to be something interesting. The title is supposedly going to be the first issue. As for the story, here goes ... --- "She was pacing along the harsh wet sand, following the eerie sound from her dream. The voice that had kept her awake for as long as she could remember. Passing through a narrow passage of dry land, she stopped in front of a giant red oak tree in search of that strange voice in her head.     The last day she remembered of peace was when she was working on her garden, ploughing up the black volcanic soil. When suddenly, her shovel hit something, making a loud thump. The contact triggered an explosion, and left her ears ringing and her vision dizzy. The impact of the explosion was too much for her fragile posture, and she fainted on the
