Cruel History

This post like most with similar topics, would seem like ranting about things in the past. I've been doing some research into world history and various major events that shaped the world we live in today. The past is filled with atrocities, which makes us humans seem like the lowest form of animal species to ever walk on this beautiful earth.

So, let's start with dictatorship. I never realized this, but when it comes to the most cruel dictators of all time, Hitler isn't really on the top spot. The man who even dwarfs Hitler's crime against humanity is Joseph Stalin. The man was a nightmare to deal with, responsible for over about 49 million deaths. Then, there is Mao Zedong perhaps the most cruel dictator of all time, responsible for 45 million deaths in just 4 years. With respect to all of this, the Indian independence struggle and the great war of 1857 seem like just a bad day (perhaps an over exaggeration on my part).

As, I was exploring this I came across Nanking Massacre during the second Sino-Japanese war. I have never read such a horrifying display of cruelty. If we consider this along with all the darkest imaginative novels (including GoT and Story of O), I still think this is much much worse.

I felt the scary side of war when I watched Band of Brothers and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, but as it turns out history has had so much cruelty, which seems to wane any major event we come across. There's the Spanish Inquisitions, the Witch Trials, atrocities thanks to Pope Innocent VIII and Countess Elizabeth Bathory. When you think about it, the media does cover up a lot and shows the softer side of the world to us. The real stories are nightmares, best left to the fiction.

Peace out \../
