Magical numbers: 7

The number 7; it's everywhere in mythology and astrology. Even in nature, we see this number everywhere (much like the number 23).

We have 7 seas (Arctic, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, North Pacific, South Pacific, Indian and Southern Oceans). We have 7 continents (Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Antarctica and Australia), though Oceania should be part of this list now.

In Christianity, the number 7 is considered to be a Holy number, as the God rested on the 7th day and 777 is the antithesis of 666 (number of the devil). We have 7 sins and 7 virtues (those numbers differ in Dante's versions).

Even in Ancient Egypt, 7 was considered as the God Number. The use of number 7 by common people was not encouraged.

In music, we have 7 notes. There are 7 chakras in the basic model used in various eastern traditions and philosophies.

In Islam, the number of layers of Earth, the number of heavens, the number of hells, they are all 7.

The number of archangels = 7
The number of steps Buddha walked at his birth = 7
The number of sages in Hindu Mythology = 7
The number of main islands of Atlantis = 7
The neutral pH value = 7
Primary colors in a rainbow = 7
Days in a week = 7

The 7th glyph of the Maya Calendar is Blue Hand, it represents the days in creation and is associated with creative perfection. This is the glyph of the last day of their calendar that ends on December 21, 2012.

Coincidence?

I believe all religions had a similar beginning (mostly for pagan religions), and therefore, we are all more similar than we care to admit.

Peace out \./
